Hello! I am part of my school newspaper, The Eagles Eye. Here is my most recent article...SNOWMEN!
Snowman
By Emily Lee Gr.5
What’s in your mind when winter is here? I usually think about Christmas, cold weather, snow, and snowmen. Do you know what a snowman is made of? Your answer will probably be snow or snowflakes. However, did you know that snowflakes are about 20% water and 80% air. So a snowman is actually mostly made of air ( I would call it a snow-air man).
Some scientists think that the first snowman was most likely built in Europe. Creating a snowman dates all the way back to the Middle Ages (roughly the 5th century to the 16th century). Snowmen are often considered a symbol for Christmas. It is sometimes considered an aerobic exercise burning about 238 calories per snowman, per hour.
According to http://wbztv.com/local/worlds.tallest.snowman.2.666023.html and http://thelongestlistofthelongeststuffatthelongestdomainnameatlonglast.com/largest25.html , the tallest snowman in the records is 122`1`` tall and was named Angus King. He was built in Bethel, Maine in 1999. It melted in June 10, 1999 and took around four months to melt. The tallest snowwoman was 122`1`` and was named Olympia after Olympia Snowe, Maine’s senior senator. She was also built in Bethel, Maine except she was built in 2008.
